Moving In

We aim to make the move-in experience as smooth as possible for everyone!  Once you know you are moving into Tideview Terrace, you will be contacted by one of our nurses to discuss the move-in process, including dates, times, what you need to bring with you, and answer any questions. On move in day, we would like your focus to be on settling in and finding comfort.  Within three days of moving in our Finance Office will contact you and/or your Power of Attorney to set up a meeting to discuss finances and complete paperwork.

To join our TVT family, or to come for a short respite stay, the following steps must be completed by you, or by your Power of Attorney and/or Substitute Decision Maker.

Please note: this entire process is coordinated by the NS Department of Health and Wellness.

  1. Call the Continuing Care NS Line at 1-800-225-7225 to begin the process.
  2. A Care Coordinator will meet with you in your home to assess your needs.
  3. If you need more support than can be provided at home, the Care Coordinator will complete an application for you to move into a long-term care home.
  4. At the same time, you will need to complete a Financial Assessment. Your Care Coordinator will explain the process to you.
  5. Your name will then be placed on the waiting list for long-term care, according to the date your application was approved. The wait lists are managed by Continuing Care – Tideview Terrace does not manage a waitlist of its own.

We understand that moving can be difficult.

We’re here to help. A move can be a stressful event for anyone. However, there are some ways to make things easier.

Not just a room, a home!

When you walk around Tideview Terrace, you will notice that each room is different. Here are some examples of items you can incorporate into a room to make it more familiar:

    • Favourite bedspread, quilt or pillow
    • Favourite chair
    • Favourite photos – include both old and new photos
    • Plant or flower arrangement
    • Handmade artwork from grandchildren
    • Paintings or prints of favourite scenes
    • Television to watch their favourite shows or videos
    • Magazines or books
    • Radio
