Occupational Therapist

This position has primary responsibility for the overall coordination and management of a Neighbourhood of 27 residents plus staff; for the leadership, and promotion of the Eden Alternative Philosophy of Care. As a member of the senior management team the successful incumbent will participate in discussions and activities related to the operation of the organization which may include strategic planning, policy and procedure development, education, acquisition, utilization and monitoring of both fiscal and personnel resources.

Volunteering

Volunteers at Tideview Terrace play a crucial role in enhancing the wellbeing of our residents, fostering a sense of community, and providing additional support to our staff. As an Eden Alternative Philosophy home, we seek to create a more vibrant and fulfilling living environment at Tideview. The philosophy focuses on combating the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom and emphasized the importance of meaningful relationship, empowerment, and home-like atmosphere. Volunteer services are often diverse and can be tailored to meet the unique needs of our residents. Here is a description of what volunteering services might look like at Tideview: 

  1. Companionship & Social Activities
    • Volunteers can spend time engaging in conversations, playing games, reading, or simply providing companionship to residents.
  2. Assistance with Recreation Programs
    • Volunteers can help with recreation programs such as exercise classes, movie nights, BINGO, art classes, coffee shop, or outings to local events.
  3. Mealtime Support
    • Volunteers can assist during mealtimes, by helping make, serve or assist residents with meals.
  4. Educational Programs
    • Volunteers can offer educational sessions on various topics, ranging from technology tutorials to book clubs, to keep residents mentally engaged and informed.
  5. Intergenerational Programs
    • Collaborative programs with local schools or community groups that involve interactions between residents and younger generations.
  6. Spiritual Care Services
    • Volunteers may facilitate or assist with religious services or observations, respecting the diverse spiritual background of our residents. This could also include organizing prayer groups, scripture readings or religious discussions.
  7. Outdoor and Nature Activities
    • Volunteers may assist residents with gardening, nature walks, or spending time in the sunshine.
    • Volunteering with our Cycling without Age Program, where they assist residents in experiencing the joy of cycling and wind in their hair using a specialized electric pedal assisted bike.
  8. Musical Entertainment
    • Volunteers with musical talents such as singers, instrumentalists or bands can provide live performances to residents.
