Support Services Worker
POSITION SCOPE:
The Support Service staff person is accountable to the residents’ to ensure a high quality of work is maintained while balancing tasks with residents’ needs and relationships. They work under the direction of the Neighbourhood Manager, Dietitian, and Support Service Lead Hand as a member of the multidisciplinary team. The Support Service staff person works in providing an Eden Alternative approach to resident directed care. The staff person works within the framework, policies and objectives as set out by Tideview Terrace and the Department of Seniors & Long Term Care.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Completion of High School or GED
- Knowledge of infection control guidelines, food safety and WHMIS
- Knowledge of how to maintain a clean and safe work environment following proper cleaning techniques and OH&S safe work practices, including use of chemicals and equipment
- Demonstrated ability to work closely with the CCAs and as a member of the multidisciplinary team
- Ability to work independently in a household for any extended period of time if necessary with the awareness of human resources available to call upon throughout the building
- Demonstrated commitment in providing an Eden Alternative approach
- The ability to balance tasks with residents’ needs
- Actively promotes activities that are meaningful to the residents’ needs
- Demonstrated interest in building resident relationships with the importance of providing simple pleasures
- Adaptable, responsible and takes initiative
- Displays positive attitudes and behaviours
- Displays problem solving and decision making techniques
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills
- Must be able to perform duties that involve lifting, bending and stretching and meet the overall physical and cognitive demands of the job
- Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of on and off duty
- Outstanding work history inclusive of good attendance, demonstrated availability to work, available to work all shifts, weekends and holidays, and willingness to work all Neighbourhoods and all Support Service departments in current and past employment
